I have been folklore dancing for almost 10 years now. Basically I grew up with my friends that I met there. As a folklore dancer I always try to promote our folklore with the people from my surrounding. There are three folk dance groups in my town and because of that, the youth in my town is pretty familiar with our folklore.
Still many people think that folklore dancing is just jumping around which makes me really angry. Our Macedonian folklore is filled with many traditional songs and lots of beautiful and complicated traditional dances(called ORO) . I love that proud moment when you step on the stage dressed in NOSIJA(traditional clothes) and you start dancing.
The fact that we can promote our traditional values through dancing is very exciting and will hopefully engage more and more young people in this work of art.
